Growing up in the quiet Danish countryside, surrounded by open fields, beautiful gardens and the sound of birdsong. There was space to be still, to wander, and to become absorbed in my books and own thoughts. It was in this quietness that my imagination began to grow.
I have been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember.
With no internet, smartphones or other distractions, there was so much time, and scope for creativity and imagination
I am entirely self-taught, and throughout my life, painting has remained a way of making sense of the rich inner world I have always carried with me, and to translate what I have found no words for.
This inner world, is the heart of my work.
I am drawn to the quiet and reflective moments of human life. To emotions that are sometimes difficult to put into words. My paintings are often symbolic and contemplative, creating small worlds where what is seen, heard or read, and what is felt can exist alongside one another.
Nature plays an important part in my art. I often draw parallels between the human world and the natural world, finding reflections of our emotions, relationships and experiences in flowers, birds, seasons and landscapes.
I am equally fascinated by the stories we inherit. Old legends, folklore, history and cultural heritage often find their way into my paintings. I am interested in how these stories remain with us, sometimes hidden beneath the surface of everyday life, and how they can connect us to people and places that came before us.
Through my work, I try to create a meeting between these worlds. Nature and humanity, past and present, the visible and the unseen.
We live in a world where almost everything is shared, seen or available. I find my self drawn to the complete opposite way of life, and so I create paintings that are anonymous and timeless. Paintings that do not explain themselves, but creates a room for reflection, for the viewer to wonder, imagine and find their own meaning.
